This Ship Is Built by Me is derived from marital life and provokes profound reflections on the realities of gender relations. Through depicting various life scenarios, it explores the essence of human nature as well as the relationship between society and individuals.

There is inherently a gap, or even an opposition, between illusion and truth. Marriage, a bond we perceive as beautiful, faithful and sacred, actually entails a process of transitioning from illusion to truth, and from festive fireworks to fleeting sparks.

It is both a fetter on the yearning for animalistic freedom and a compromise born of the insecurity of human existence.

From Plato’s philosophical narratives to an analysis of contemporary society: in an increasingly individualistic world, the difficulties in seeking, maintaining and nurturing marital relationships have resulted in fewer people being willing to embrace the “compromises” inherent in marriage.

Each of us possesses remarkable strengths as well as intolerable flaws. Figuring out a suitable mode of coexistence in a long-term marriage is a challenge we all face — one that calls for redemption rather than criticism. We must recognize reality yet still embrace it with passion. It encourages us to gain a deeper understanding of love, marriage and life, and to pursue our genuine needs. Meanwhile, it has also become a question that deserves earnest reflection by every idealistic individual.
